Ujvari, Katharine February 6, 1935 - December 24, 2020

On Thursday, December 24th, 2020, Katharine Ujvari, loving mother of three children and grandmother of four grandchildren, passed away at age 85.

 

Katharine was born on February 6th, 1935 in Balaton Almadi, Hungary, to Elizabeth Kiraly and Erno Kapronzai. As a college student she was displaced by the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and immigrated to New Orleans, LA. In 1963 she married Andrew Ujvari. They raised three sons: Richard, Steven, and David. She worked in Ricoh’s camera department and later as a certified nursing assistant until retirement.

 

Katharine was an active member of the Holy Rosary Society of the St Thomas More Church in Fairfield, NJ, where she spent much of her life before moving to Hackettstown and eventually The Bristal in Woodcliff Lake. As a kind and empathetic listener, she put faith and family first. Art, cooking, and music were her passions, but her grandchildren gave her the greatest joy.

 

Katharine was preceded in death by her younger sister Eva Kapronzai and survived by her younger sister, Vera Kapronzai, three sons, daughters-in-law Eva and Cherie, and grandchildren, Stephanie, Amanda, Gracie, and Molly Ujvari.

 

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. 07840.  The viewing will be on December 30th, 2020  from 10:00 am to 11:30 am with a funeral service beginning at 11:30 am.  The burial will be immediately after the funeral at Union Cemetery, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
