Henry VanSolkema, 85 of Schooley’s Mountain, NJ passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at St. Clare’s Hospital, Dover, NJ. Born in Holland, Henry was the son of the late Eile & Fiejke VanSolkema.

Henry moved to the United States from Holland at the age of 13 and began working on the family’s dairy farm in New Jersey. He was last employed at Flocktown Kossman School working for  Washington Township school district as the head custodian retiring many years ago. Henry was a farmer at heart with a strong work ethic that he had passed on to his children. He was very proud of his yard, garden and home working hard to maintain them at a high level.

Henry is survived by two sons; Henry VanSolkema, Jr. of Mansfield Twp., NJ and Art VanSolkema of Washington, NJ. Two brothers, Gerrit VanSolkema of Stroudsburg, Pa. & Sint VanSolkema of Mansfield, Twp. NJ.  Three adoring grandchildren; Henry, Kristin & Jason. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Gladys Lott VanSolkema and his daughter, June Olmstead.

Visitation hours will be from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ, 07840. The funeral will take place on Monday, February 13, 2023 at 10:00 am at Cochran Funeral home. Interment will be in the Hackettstown Union Cemetery, Hackettstown, NJ. Following the service.
