Walter Lencewicz, Jr. November 2, 1951 - July 11, 2020

Walter M. Lencewicz Jr., 68 of Hackettstown passed away peacefully at home on July 11, 2020. Walt was born on November 2, 1951 at Newton Memorial Hospital to Walter M. Lencewicz, Sr. and Stella Penkol Lencewicz.

Walt grew up in Great Meadows, NJ where he spent his early years helping at his family’s produce farm. In addition, as a boy, Walt, his father and brother would go trapping together. His love for hunting and fishing would continue throughout his life, as well as, going to watch races at Island Dragway, in Great Meadows, NJ.

He graduated from Warren County Technical School in 1970 with a degree in Construction. Walt spent 40 years of his career as a Maintenance Technician. He worked at Southland Chemical in Great Meadows for 18 years and then at BASF in Belvidere, NJ for 22 years until BASF closed its doors in 2011. Walt then worked as a Fire Watchman at St. Claire’s Hospital in Sussex, NJ where he retired in 2018.

Walt was creative, kind, loving and handy. He loved looking for arrowheads, listening to music and watching his favorite television shows. He and his wife Mary’s favorite hobby was traveling around to local town wide yard sales. He also loved antique cars, creating beautiful gardens, canning and baking. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Walt was predeceased by his father, Walter M. Lencewicz, Sr. and infant brother Richard.

Surviving in addition to his wife Mary Dimiceli Lencewicz, are two daughters, Denise Trella and her husband Joel Trella of Midland Park, Sherry Flyte and her husband Aaron Flyte of Hackettstown, grandchildren, Andrew Flyte, Max and Violet Trella, mother, Stella Penkol Lencewicz, sister Joanne Wright and brother Arthur Lencewicz.

A viewing will take place on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cochran’s Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ. There will also be viewing service at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 16, 2020 and funeral mass at Church of the Assumption, 302 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Pequest Union Cemetery.

    My deepest sympathy to you Mary and family. I was just sorting photos this week and ran across photos of Denise, Sherry, and J. J. playing in the snow behind the buildings on Main Street many years ago. J J sends his sympathy to all of you, too.
