William John Whelan, age 65, of Port Murray, NJ died Sunday, April 21, 2024 at home. William was born October 12, 1958 in Morristown, NJ. He was the son of the late Thomas H. and Rosemarie K. (Shinkowski) Whelan. In addition to his parents, William is preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Whelan.
William was previously employed by Operating Engineers Local #825, 65 Springfield Avenue, Springfield, NJ 07081 as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Bill was a collector of trains and enjoyed visiting train museums, he was an avid LA Chargers Football and NY Yankees Baseball fan, loved fishing, snowmobiling with daughter, son and friends and motorcycle riding.
He is survived by a daughter, Haley Ciaravino and husband Kyle, a son, William Whelan, three sisters, Linda Bell and husband Joseph, Kathleen Coppersmith and husband Kevin, Diane Amaral and husband Michael, a brother, Robert Whelan and wife Donna and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Union Cemetery, Mountain Avenue, Hackettstown, NJ on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11 am.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
In lieu of flowers United Railroad Historical Society of NJ Inc., 501 (c) (3) non-profit, 104 Morris Avenue, Boonton, NJ 07005 in memory of William.
