Edward L. Baker, Jr., age 87, of Great Meadows, NJ died Saturday, July 1, 2023 at St. Luke’s Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ. Edward was born September 7, 1935 in Morristown, NJ. He is the son of the late Edward L. Sr. and Mary J. (Diehl) Baker. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Baker, two sisters, Marilyn Vancil and Patricia Fallat and his favorite dog, Maggie.
Ed served proudly in the US Navy from 1952 through 1960. He graduated the Fire Academy in 1958 and was a lifetime member of the Flanders Fire Department serving as Chief in 1969 and in 1972. He was previously employed as a Steamfitter and was a member for 65 years of the Steamfitter/Pipefitter Union Local #274, Parsippany, NJ.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gail (Gallagher) Baker, his son, Edward L. Baker, III and fiancé Lenora Miko, his daughter, Wendy Anzulewicz and husband Peter, his son, James Baker and wife Marie and daughter, Victoria Eck and husband Warren, 10 grandchildren, Edward L, IV, Aiden, Joseph and their mother Adele, Jeff, Cyndi, TJ, Brandon, Megan, Michael, Katie and 6 great grandchildren, Abby, Ethan, Adelaide, Joseph, Jr., Justin, and Cillian.
Visitation will be Friday, July 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ. The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, July 8 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 213 Main Street, Hackettstown, NJ with Rev. Donald Gebhard officiating. Cremation is private.
