Sherry Crawford, formerly of East Stroudsburg, passed away peacefully at the home of her son in Hackettstown NJ on April 1st, 2026. Born December 4th, 1935 she was a lifelong educator in both Pennsylvania and New York State. She was the longtime Head Children’s Librarian of Easter Monroe Public Library in Stroudsburg.
Born in East Stroudsburg to the late Clarence and Stella (Oney) Plattenburg, she graduated from East Stroudsburg High School. She held a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education, and a Masters in Reading Education from East Stroudsburg University as well as a Library Science Certificate.
She lived outside the country twice in Tangier, Morocco and Suva, Fiji. She traveled extensively Including many Pacific Islands, England, Germany, India, and Egypt.
Sherry was an avid reader and was never more than an arm’s length from a good cup of tea. Accordingly a Memorial Tea Party is planned for the immediate future.
Sherry is survived by her two sons, James Crawford of Charlotte NC, and Geoff Crawford of Hackettstown NJ, as well as one grandson Mason Crawford of Wilmington NC. Also surviving is one sister Josie Counterman of East Stroudsburg PA. She was predeceased by her siblings, Janet Cramer, Lydia (Sis) Evans, Stella Marie (Skeeter) Plattenburg, Paul Plattenburg, Arthur (Butch) Plattenburg, Carol Urban, and Linda Drake.
