Elsie Snyder, age 85, of Mount Arlington, NJ formerly of Sligo, PA and Dover, NJ died Wednesday, January 22, 2020 after a brief illness. Born March 5, 1934 in Elizabeth, NJ. She is the daughter of the late Wilber “Pete” and Elsie Mae (Clouter) Mecabe. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years, Richard, and her three brothers, Robert, Pete and David.
Elsie was a recent resident in Mt. Arlington after spending 16 years in Sligo, PA. She was a long time resident of Dover, NJ where she and her husband made a lovely home and raised a loving family. She was a devoted homemaker, teacher’s aide and worked for a time at H O Baker Insurance Company. She was also an active member of the First Memorial Presbyterian Church, Dover, NJ.
In 2003 Richard and Elsie moved to Sligo, PA. Elsie was a member of the congregation of the Sligo Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed active participation in various adult group functions and trips. She served as an officer of the congregation for a term.
She is survived four sons, Richard Lee and his wife Corrine of Old Forge, PA, Kenneth and his wife Christine of Colonia, NJ, Jeffrey and his wife Tracy of Sarver, PA, Douglas and his wife Kristen Randolph, NJ, her daughter, Linda Sperry and her husband Jon, a sister , JoAnn Beachler and husband John of Mt. Vernan, IN, a sister-in-law, Gail Snyder of Vienna, NJ, two brothers-in-law, Lester Snyder and wife Joy, Robert Snyder and wife Janice both of Hackettstown, NJ, eleven grandchildren, Jon Jr., William, Marlaina, Robert, Erin, Stephen, Eric, Zachary, Kevin, Kate, Olivia, six great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Alexa, Nora, AnnaLynne, Benjamin, Austin as well as many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ with Ken Hess officiating. Burial will follow at Pequest Union Cemetery, Great Meadows.
Visitation hours will be Monday, January 27, 2020 from 4 – 8 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sligo Presbyterian Church, 403 Colerain Street, Sligo, PA in memory of Elsie.
