Genevieve (Jean) Ellen Hoyt, 92, of Hackettstown, NJ passed away peacefully on September 17, 2023 at Holly Manor in Mendham, NJ. Jean was born on January 19, 1931 in Jersey City, NJ to the late John and Ethel (Sloan) Catlow. Jean and her late husband James lived in Matawan, NJ for 20 years before moving to Mt. Arlington, NJ. Jean enjoyed writing stories and poems; she was an avid reader who also loved gardening. What she truly enjoyed was her time with her family: volunteering as the cafeteria monitor, Friday night rolling skating monitor, and volunteering for all her children’s sports and activities. After her children all graduated from high school, she went back to school to receive her GED. She was a member of Deborah Heart and Lung Center, Mt. Arlington Book Club, Mt. Arlington Garden Club and Cornerstone Bible Study Group. Some of her favorite pastimes were watching all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren in their favorite activities, fishing with her husband and playing Bingo with friends.
She is survived by her children Colleen (husband Edward) Arens, Kevin (wife Marisa) Hoyt, Donna (husband Kenneth) Weeks, and daughter-in-law Linda Hoyt; 12 grandchildren, James (wife Lara) Hoyt, Jenna (husband Chris) Hawkswell, Joshua (wife Grace) Hoyt, Jennifer (husband James) Pennucci, Jessica Arens Huisa, Stacy (husband Steven) Filippi, Ed Arens, Ryan Hoyt, Chris Hoyt, Dylan ( wife Bri) D’Alessio, Tyler Weeks, Lyllie Weeks; 14 great grandchildren, Denae, Richie, Ryan, Riley, Rider, Kyle, Konor, Riker, Royce, Norah, Scarlet, Nehemiah, Eden, and Harper. She was predeceased by her loving husband James C. Hoyt, sons; James Jr., Ralph, Vincent and her granddaughter Kyleigh D’Alessio.
Jean’s Life Celebration will include a visitation on Thursday September 21, 2023 from 10am-12pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street Hackettstown, NJ. Interment will be held privately by her family.
