Onnen, Barbara Lee September 23, 1948 - January 17, 2022

Barbara Lee Onnen, age 73, of Hackettstown died Monday, January 17, 2022 at home.  Barbara was born September 23, 1948 in Dover, NJ to the late Weston and Margaret (Moore) Doland. In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Doland and her sister, Kathleen Doland.

She was employed by Hackettstown Board Of Education as the Senior Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Curriculum.  In addition, Barbara was previously employed as the Secretary to the Vice President of Silver, Burnett and Ginn of Morristown, NJ and secretary of the Picatinny Arsenal and AT&T Communications.  Barbara graduated from the Katherine Gibbs School with an Associate’s Degree, enjoyed reading poetry, spending time at the beach and appreciating the beauty of flowers, especially sunflowers.  She loved her cats and volunteering at the local animal shelter.

She is survived by devoted son, David Earl Smith, her loving companion, John Walker Serafin, a sister, Pamela Arteglier and husband Charles, III, three nieces, Susan Doland, Jessica Sheingold, Justine Bailey, two nephews, Daniel Arteglier, Charles Arteglier, IV and four great nephews and one great niece.

The funeral service will be held 3:30 pm on Saturday, January 22 at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 22 from 12 pm – 4:00 pm at Cochran Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pet Adoption League of North Jersey – Warren County SPCA, P.O. Box 206, Hackettstown, New Jersey 07840 in memory of Barbara.

    I’m devastated. Barbara snd I both worked for the Bd of Ed and coincidentally were neighbors. She was always willing to provide info and guidance when necessary re cats when I transitioned from dogs. . I hope her animals
    in and outside will be cared for. She will be sorely missed By family, friends and all animals.🙏
