Shirley D. Roe, 89, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on May 4, 2025. Born on September 3, 1935 in Roseland, NJ to the late Percy and Ellen Demeritt, she was the youngest and last surviving of 11 children.
Shirley graduated Hackettstown High School in 1955 and married Robert the same year. Together they raised their 4 children while residing in Hackettstown for many years. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church and had been a Sunday school teacher there years ago. With her true passion in life being in nursing, she worked for many years at Heath Village Retirement Community and continued working as a home health care worker later on in life. Shirley had an infectious personality that made an impact on everyone she met. Her kindness and generosity knew no limits and she always made herself available without hesitation to anyone in need, therefore being known to many (family or not) as simply “Mom” or “Grandma”. She never missed a family event and was always the life of the party.
After her retirement, she moved to Evergreen Village in Mt. Bethel, Pa where she spent most of her time sitting on her patio and enjoying the company of her many, many dear friends and neighbors. As a woman who lived her life to the fullest and loved her family fiercely, she left a huge imprint and a legacy that will live forever in our hearts.
Shirley was predeceased by her former husband Robert H. Roe and grandson Tyler Wehrenberg.
She is survived by her 4 children, Thomas Roe, Debra Wehrenberg (Mark), Nancy Parrish (Eric), Ellen LiPetri (Anthony), 15 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.

May 8, 2025 at 5:13 pmSending my condolences. So sorry to hear of Shirley’s death. Debbie and I spent a lot of time together as children and later I remember her kindness when I was learning to be an aide at Heath Village. I remember how hard she worked and what a great sense of humor she had. Debbie, lots of great memories are stored away of you and your mom.🩷

May 13, 2025 at 11:04 amLorinda, thank you so much for your kind words. It’s funny…we used to tease mom and call her a “ freak of nature”, because she was so extraordinary for her age! Her compassion for others, and her unconditional love for her family was unmatchable. She has left a void in our lives that can never be filled. She was the best of the best! Heaven just got a good one for sure! ❤️
