Christopher Ernest Spangler, 67, passed away on April 15, 2026, at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Born in Troy, NY, and raised in Woodbury, NJ, Chris graduated from Woodbury High School in 1977. He received training as a draftsman while working for JJ Henry Co., where he designed ships. He briefly relocated to Maine and worked for Bath Iron Works (BIW). A longtime resident of Hackettstown, NJ, Chris was a senior structural designer at the Nestlé instant coffee plant in Freehold, NJ. He founded and operated CADStaff LLC for many years.
Chris had a passion for cars, trains, and music, attending many concerts during his life. When he was a teenager, he drove to Alaska with his father, Rev. Ernest Spangler, on a camping trip, before taking a small plane to the Arctic Circle. As an adult he could often be found enjoying his boat on Lake Hopatcong with his family and friends. During the last few years of his life, Chris spent much of his time at his house in Tennessee, surrounded by the beautiful countryside. He enjoyed visits, especially from his beloved granddog Remy. He is predeceased by his mother, Viola Gutekunst, his father Rev. Ernest Spangler, his grandparents, aunts, and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Bernadette (Ferrara) Spangler and his children, Dana (her husband, Austin), Christopher (his wife, Alejandra), Franklin (his dog, Remy), his granddaughter Sofia (his Sweet Pea), his sister Katherine, her children and grandchildren, and his many cousins and extended family.
A service and viewing will be held at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street Hackettstown NJ 07840 on Tuesday, April 21 from 4-8 pm with a Funeral Service starting at 7:30pm. He will be interned at Forest Hills in Pennsylvania, next to his beloved mother.

April 21, 2026 at 5:51 pmThe spangler Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I was fortunate to come to know Chris through CAD staff more than two decades ago as a contractor and more recently here at Bionomic Industries as a direct employee. He will be sorely missed professionally as a very talented mechanical designer and more importantly personally as good friend to be around. May God be with you in this very difficult time and always.
