Judith Widenor at the age of 82 years old, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer in Phillipsburg NJ.
She was born on November 20, 1943 at Overlook Hospital in Union, New Jersey, to the late Ruth Elizabeth and Everett Clarence MacKinnon. She lived in Union NJ until 1948, when the MacKinnon’s bought their home in Vienna, New Jersey. She attended Hackettstown High School and would later return to school to obtain her GED.
She worked for Ronetco Supermarkets (Shop Rite), where she started as a cashier and gradually worked her way to becoming a department manager until 1991, when she retired. After her retirement, she and her husband Russell, purchased a motor home and traveled around the country visiting places of interest.
She also enjoyed cruises and trips to tropical islands, summer trips to the Jersey shore, Long Beach Island and other beach excursions in North Carolina and Delaware with family members and friends. She frequented farmers markets and yard sales. Hobbies included painting, drawing, and creating greeting cards. She enjoyed playing card games and bingo with friends and family. She had a strong connection with her church, volunteering her time at many functions where she was an active participant and member of the Changewater United Methodist Church. She also joined and became a member of several local senior groups from Washington, Oxford, and Independence. She served the local community through volunteering her time working at Habitat for Humanity. Although she enjoyed a variety, she loved sea food, and her favorite snack was potato chips. Family members would lovingly joke about her disinterest in the culinary arts, she could be heard saying, “I don’t cook, I make reservations”.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Widenor, her parents, Ruth and Everett MacKinnon, her nephews, Keith and Eric Opitz, and her brother-in -law, William Opitz. Survived by her children: J Douglas Ort and his wife Michelle, Robert Ort and his wife Carol, Jill Short, Jackie Widenor, and three grandchildren, David, Jaye, and Holly; Her sisters: Roberta Opitz, Barbara Snyder and her husband Richard Snyder, Debra Hendershot and her husband Leon Hendershot along with many nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered for her many personal attributes, but the ones that stand out the most were her warm smile, sense of humor and strong connection and loyalty to family and friends.
A celebration of life Memorial Service will be held at the Changewater Methodist Church located at 180 Musconetcong River Road Glenn Gardner on Saturday March 28th , 10 am is visitation followed by an 11am service. In her memory, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Changewater Methodist Church, 180 Musconetcong River Rd, Washington N.J 07882.
