Ian Matthew Hull Wright, age 42, of Hackettstown, NJ, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at his home. Ian was born on June 13, 1983, in Beech Grove, Indiana, to Matthew and Deborah (Rudolph) Wright.

I met Ian when he moved to my middle school probably around 1995 or 1996, and we instantly connected after I wore a Smashing Pumpkins t-shirt one day. From that moment on, music became such a huge part of our friendship. Ian was always burning CDs for me and introducing me to bands I had never heard before, expanding my world through music in the best way possible. I’ll always remember us blasting music while driving around in my VW Jetta in high school, completely wrapped up in whatever album or band we were obsessed with at the time. Some of my favorite memories are tied to those moments — talking about music, laughing, and just being young. He was even my prom date, a memory I’ll always cherish.

Life took us in different directions, and sadly we lost touch over the last 20 years, something I truly wish hadn’t happened. But hearing of his passing brought all those memories rushing back and reminded me how much of an impact he had on my life during such an important time. I’ll always be grateful for his friendship, his kindness, and the soundtrack he helped create for so many memories.

Ian was truly one of a kind, and he will be deeply missed. My deepest condolences go out to his friends and family during this incredibly difficult time.

    Ian,
I will cherish the times we shared forever.
Driving you school, listening to the endless cds you burned with the best music, or just talking about nothing. You were a great person and even though we lost touch in the end, you were a very important part of my life. My condolences to your wonderful parents. I hope Barney was there to welcome you.
