It is with great sorrow, we share that Andrew M. Cullen passed away on September 8, 2021
Andrew, known as “Drew” to family and a select few, was born on July 24, 1983 in San Rafael, California, to his loving parents Tom and Jane, and older brother and fellow traveler, Matt.
Andrew attended Hackettstown schools and graduated from high school in 2002, He was a US Army Veteran, serving from 2004 through 2009 in the Artillery, with time spent in Afghanistan and Africa, having attained the rank of Sergeant. Andrew later attended Rutgers University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History.
Upon return to the United States and civilian life, Andrew continued to pursue his passion as a member of the 2nd Regiment Rhode Island Volunteer Infantry as a Civil War reenactor. Forever a history buff – Andrew was always seeking to learn, his home was filled with literature, history books and video courses from topics as varied as biographical studies of Churchill to the Illard of Homer.
A member of the Musconetcong Masonic Lodge #42 since 2010, Andrew rose to become Worshipful Master of the lodge. His Masonic brothers honor his memory and service, as such a Masonic funeral service will be held during the viewing.
Andrew was employed with the Social Security Administration as a Claims Representative, but his real occupation was Adventurer. Drew and Matt journeyed to Scotland, Ireland, and London, South Korea with a quick jaunt to Thailand, and a memorable trip to Hong Kong completed in just four days. Traveling solo, Drew went to Italy and Spain, he ascended Machu Pichu. The brothers enjoyed going to concerts together- with Andrew favoring heavy metal and rock.
Many special moments spent with dad, Tom, texting and bantering back and forth with their trivia questions of the day are especially cherished and will be missed.
Andrew is survived by father: Thomas Cullen and stepmom Debbie, brother: Matthew Cullen, stepsister: Beth Harvey (husband Dan), stepbrother: David Shafer (wife Kristen) and stepfather Hank Shotwell.
Andrew was predeceased by his mother; Jane Cullen and we imagine they are now enjoying many cups of tea and conversations about Medieval History. He was loved and shall be missed by his many relatives and friends. Peaceful travels, Andrew.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm. \
A funeral service will be held following the visitation on Saturday, September 18 at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. with Chaplin Mario Spadaro officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675, www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate in memory of Andrew.
