Gibbs, Frank H. February 1, 1939 - September 12, 2021

Retired Farmer
Frank H. Gibbs
Allamuchy, NJ

Frank H. Gibbs, 82, of Allamuchy passed away on Sunday, September 12th at the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice in Fredon, NJ.

Frank was born in Newton, NJ on February 1, 1939. He is the son of the late J. Clifford and Marion Walker.

He was the husband of Joan (Henry) who he met as a youth member of their 4-H horse club. They were married on October 3, 1959 and celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last year. Frank was a graduate of Hackettstown High School and studied animal husbandry at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He co-owned and operated Gibbs Farms with his brother, the late James C. Gibbs and subsequently partnered with his sons in operating Gibbs Quest. For over 100 years, and as the third generation to operate the family farm, Frank has been a lifelong member of his beloved community located in the heart of Allamuchy’s valley and rolling hills. He was an active participant in community and civic life serving as Vice President of the Allamuchy Township Board of Education, Chairman of the Allamuchy Township Planning Board, founding member of the Allamuchy-Green Rescue Squad, blood donor with the American Red Cross, member of the Allamuchy Historical Society, founding member of the Friends of Rutherfurd Hall and member of its Key Communicators Committee and Wednesday volunteer group, Sunday School teacher and Trustee of Tranquility United Methodist Church, member of Panther Valley Ecumenical Church and its finance committee, Chairman of the Warren County Holstein Association, President of the New Jersey Holstein Association, President of NEDCO (Northeast Dairy Cooperative), member of NJ Farm Bureau, member of the Warren County Agriculture Development Board (NJ Farmland Preservation), member Ridge & Valley Conservancy, volunteer with Global Volunteers, and Master of Foxhounds with Spring Valley Hounds.

In addition to his devoted wife and partner in life, Joan, Frank is survived by son Brant and his wife Cristiana Cooke-Gibbs, son Keith and his wife Maryann Gibbs, daughter Jama and her husband David Toung, eight grandchildren: Brice, Levi, Austin, Maiya, Garrett, Jace, Sienna, and Collin and great-granddaughter, Grace. In addition, he is survived by brother Clifford W. Gibbs and his wife Ruth Gibbs, sisters-in-law, Barbara Trought, Jane Gibbs, and Mavis Gibbs, and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear cousins.

He was pre-deceased in death by brothers James C., and Robert G., brother-in-law George Trought, and nephew Jack Gibbs.

In addition to his loves of service and community, Frank enjoyed adventure travel, preferably on horseback with family and friends. He rode Western and English and was equally at home on a pack trip in the Cascade Mountains of Washington, rounding up cattle and horses, leading a trail ride up Allamuchy Mountain and hunting the hounds in the hills and valleys of Morris, Warren, and Sussex Counties. Frank enjoyed many wonderful relationships through these associations, with beautiful humans and four-legged friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 12:30-2:00 pm, with a 2:00 pm service of celebration and remembrance at Panther Valley Ecumenical Church, 1490 County Road #517, Hackettstown, NJ 07840, followed by a 3:30 service of committal at Tranquility Cemetery, 19 Maple Lane Road, Country Road #517, Green Township, NJ 07821.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made in Frank’s memory to:
