Catherine H. Mauro, age 84, of Hackettstown, NJ, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Morris View Healthcare in Morris Plains, NJ. Born April 18, 1942, in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Catherine (Whittaker) Conklin.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Mauro Jr.; her step‑son, Michael S. Mauro; her brothers, Stephen and David Conklin; her sisters, April White and Georgia Nielson; her grandson, Joseph Crumm; and her brother‑in‑law, Alfred DelGreco.

Catherine worked for many years as a waitress/bartender at Heslin House and Staples in New Jersey before retiring. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of daily life—especially completing her crossword puzzles, cooking for her family and friends, and practicing her Catholic faith. She will be remembered for her fierce toughness, her devotion to those she loved, and the strength that carried her through life’s challenges.

She is survived by her son, David Mauro and wife Melissa; her daughter, Kelly Ann Hughes and husband Tim; her step‑sons, James Mauro III and Frank Mauro; and her daughter‑in‑law, Donna Mauro. She is also survived by her sisters, Sharon Paczkowski and husband Bill, Stephenie DelGreco, and Crystal LaRocca; her brother in-law Donald White, her grandsons, Brian and his wife Anna, Bill and his fiance Geryn, Nick and his wife Daniella, and Daniel and his wife Coley; a great‑grandchild on the way; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Church, Andover, NJ, on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 10:00 AM, with Father Timothy Dowling officiating. Following the Mass, Catherine and her husband, James, will be entombed together at Good Shepherd Cemetery.
