Gean Brezina Ort, age 69, of Long Valley, NJ formerly of Bartley, NJ died Friday, August 23, 2024 at her loving home in Long Valley surrounded by her devoted family. Gean was born January 1, 1955 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Joseph and Genevieve (Banash) Brezina. Gean had five brothers: Joseph, Andre, John, Claude and Daryl Brezina. She graduated from West Morris Central as a part of the class of 1973.
Most of Gean’s early years were spent working at the Chester Bakery. Owners, Iris and Frank Lombardo, were like family to Gean and guided her through her youth, having a great impact on her life. Sequentially, Gean was employed by Washington Township as a School Aide, followed by Washington Township Library as a Library Aide for 25 years before her retirement. Through each of these employments, Gean fostered many relationships with her patrons where she was deeply loved.
April 27, 1974 Gean married the love of her life, Jacob Ort. During their 50 years of marriage they had 4 children: Jacob “Jake” Ort, Jr., Benjamin Ort, Samantha Michaluk and Katherine Ort Nunez. She additionally had 6 grandchildren: Christina, Emily, and Amilya Michaluk, Jacob Nunez, and Jaylyn and Savanna Kise.
Gean had a heart of gold that never went unnoticed. Even when evil made its presence, she always saw the good in the world, Gean was a beautiful soul that you could never not love and she definitely took a piece of everyone’s heart when she left this earth. She loved with her whole heart.
Some favorite memories of Gean are her love for the beach and pool which she shared with her children and grandchildren. She taught each child and grandchild how to swim, each grandchild cherishes their own memories with Gean, their Nana: Christina cherishes Nana reading “Goodnight Moon” to her, followed by going outside to look at the moon, Emily cherished driving in her green car listening to Lady Gaga, Jacob adores the memories swimming with his Nana at Ort Farms, Amilya treasures her sleepovers with Nana, Jaylyn cherishes Nana strawberry shortcake when she made II, Savanna cherishes Nana teaching her how to float on her back in the pool. Family was important to Gean and her Sunday Dinners were also deeply adored. Some of her happiest moments were with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 5O years, Jacob “Jake” Ort, two loving daughters, Samantha Michaluk, Katherine Ort Nunez, two devoted sons, Jacob “Jake” Ort Jr., Benjamin Ort, four brothers, Joseph Brezina, Andre Brezina, John Brezina and wife Cheryl, Daryl Brezina and wife Lisa, six cherished grandchildren, Christina, Emily and Amilya Michaluk, Jacob Nunez, Jaylyn and Savanna Kise and many nieces and nephews.
She is also remembered by Fuzzy who is the latest in the long line of a lifetime of beloved pets.
Gean was preceded in death by her parents and youngest brother. Claude Brezina.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 8 from 10 am – 2pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 8 at the funeral home following the visitation with Pastor Mario Spadaro officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Memorial Processing Center, (New Address) 1818 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 in memory of Gean.
