In Loving Memory of Marilyn Rose Sweerus
Marilyn Rose Sweerus, 97 of Mansfield Township, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 23, 2026, with loved ones by her side.
Born November 15,1928 at home in Clifton, NJ. Marilyn lived a life defined by kindness, strength, love and devotion.
Marilyn is survived by her loving children, Judy Dougherty (Jim), Larry Borsina and Laurie Sweerus (Vickie Campion), and a child of her heart, Maggie Munks. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Shawn, Jimmy, Douglas (Lynn), Steven (Hope), Lisa (Tony), Laura (Brandon), and Michael; great-grandchildren; Courtney, Kevin, Christian, Jordan, Chad, Kristi, Sandie, Brian, Makayla, Tyler, Zach and Casey; great-great grandchildren; Zander, Khalessi, Kai, Devine, Kai and Izzy. Marilyn is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Rose Maguire; her beloved husband, Robert John Sweerus; her children, Roger Borsina and Patti Baker Sweerus; grandson, Robert John Borsina; and her siblings, Peter and Herbert Maguire, Martha Poleshuk, Josephine VanWyk and Doris Atherton.
Marilyn was very proud of being the granddaughter of Matthew Maguire, Founder of Labor Day — a legacy of strength, labor and community that she carried with quiet pride. She loved a good cup of tea and a long conversation, she will be remembered for the warmth she shared, the stories she told and the way she made people feel truly seen.
A graveside service will take place on Thursday. January 29, 2026 at 10:30 am at Laurel Grove Cemetery, 295 Totowa Rd, Totowa, NJ 07512
She will be Deeply Missed and Forever Loved / Remembered. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Avenue Newton NJ 07860, karenannquinlanhospice.org/donate or plant a butterfly bush in her memory.
