Rose Marie Tiefenbacher, a devoted wife of 64 years, a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and cousin, and a lifelong friend whose warmth and humor brightened the lives of so many around her, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026.
Born on November 20, 1941 in Plainfield, New Jersey, Rose Marie was a 1960 graduate of Dover High School where she met Robert Tiefenbacher. Rose Marie and Bob were each other’s one and only true love. They were married on November 26, 1961 at Saint Jude Roman Catholic Church in Hopatcong (one of the first couples to be married there) and together they joyfully raised three children in the Elba Point section of Hopatcong before moving to Andover Township in 2001.
After high school, Rose Marie became a licensed beautician and worked for several years both independently and alongside her mother. She then operated her own cake decorating business (Elegant Cakes by Rose Marie) where she created beautiful cakes for weddings, showers, and birthdays. Rose Marie spent years perfecting her craft with three close friends – they called themselves “Roe, Roe, Moe, and Toe” – who shared their passion for cake decorating by teaching thousands of students across New Jersey.
Rose Marie maintained enduring friendships with her neighbors across Hopatcong, with many bonds strengthened during gatherings at the Elba Point Beach Club. She also helped to plan several Dover High School reunions and treasured spending time with her classmates.
Known as “Grammie” by her seven grandchildren, Rose Marie cherished taking her place on the sidelines for hundreds of their baseball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball games as well as in the auditorium for dozens of their school plays, concerts, and dance recitals, just as she did decades earlier for her own children.
She loved creating memories with her family as it expanded. In addition to hosting Christmas each year and cooking for everyone on many other holidays, Rose Marie enjoyed organizing family vacations and established a 50-year family tradition of spending a week every summer at Shawnee Village in Pennsylvania.
Rose Marie is survived by her devoted husband Bob, her children Bob (and Lisa), Denise (and John), and Rachel (and Dave), her grandchildren Ryan (and Jaime), Jonathan (and Tina), Alec, Nicole, Katilyn, Alexa, and Max, and numerous Eosso family members spanning four generations.
She is predeceased by her mother, Rachel Eosso, and was welcomed into heaven by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rose Marie’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Saint Jude Roman Catholic Church in Hopatcong,
Visitation hosted by the Tiefenbacher, Liamero, and Yudoff families is scheduled for Friday, September 4, 2026 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, New Jersey. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Cochran Funeral Home followed by interment at Union Cemetery.
