Date of Funeral

November 17, 2021
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, brother and friend Daniel A. Young, 58 of Hackettstown, NJ.  Dan passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021 in Hope, NJ.  Danny was born in Morristown and was the son of the late Dale and Shirley (Benward) Young.
Danny was a lifelong resident of the Hackettstown area and a 1981 graduate of Hackettstown High School. He was a lifetime member of the Hackettstown Cataract Hose Company. He was affectionately known to many as “The Riddler” for his unique twist on telling a story. His easygoing personality and willingness to lend a hand to anyone made him a true friend. Danny loved his family and history, especially anything to do with the history of Hackettstown.  Danny loved being outdoors, whether it be working, tending to things around the house, a new travel destination or one of the many hiking adventures throughout NJ with the beagles.  Danny was always up for a new adventure and lived life to it’s fullest. He enjoyed watching college football, especially the Oregon Ducks.
Danny was employed by Hercules Incorporated of Kenville, NJ for many years.  He currently worked as the invaluable head grounds keeper at Hackettstown Animal Hospital and Graystone Farm.  Danny is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Sandra (Billows) Young; two sisters, Bonnie Elston and Robin Everingham.  Aunts; Jean Feller and Donna Lamonaco, nephews and nieces; David Elston (Christa), Edward Elston, Erica Klimko (Brad), and Jason Hensley, Matthew Billows and Madison Billows, many cousins, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and countless friends. He was predeceased in death by Uncles Ted Benward and Warren Feller.
Visitation hours will take place on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. The funeral will be on Wednesday, 10:00am at the funeral home.  Internment will take place in the Pequest Union Cemetery, Great Meadows, NJ. From the first day meeting Danny at Hackettstown middle School he’s been a friend. A positive force to all around him Dan greeted everyone with a smile followed by a sincere asking of how my family was doing, including my mother in-law !

    Dear Sandy, family and friends,
When I heard about Danny’s passing I was stunned. I couldn’t believe it. The first thing I did for you, Sandy, was pray you would find strength for this situation. I know how much you loved Danny, eventhough, some days you would liked to have doinked him on the nose (lol), but that is what a 30 year marriage is all about. Loving your spouse through any situation! You can find peace in knowing he is with God and taking care of you from Heaven! Sending mine and David’s deepest, most heartfelt sympathies to you. We will continue to pray for you and your family!

Was so sad to hear of Danny’s passing. A childhood friend who always had a smile. Just a few years back I was driving and slowed down to say hi and Danny jumped in the car and caught a ride into town. It had been 40 years since I saw him and he hadn’t changed at all. My Dad, John Kietrys, a life long friend of the family was reminiscing on working with Danny at Hercules and we are all sorry to hear of his loss.
May you find comfort in the kind words about Danny and we will remember him kindly.
