Daniel Yankiv
Daniel Yankiv, age 83, of Hackettstown died Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Warren Haven Nursing Home, Oxford, NJ. Daniel was born March 11, 1936 in Passaic, NJ to the late John and Anna (Sveda) Yankiv. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Yankiv, and sister, Irene Zellars.
Mr. Yankiv lived in Passaic before moving to Allamuchy with his family in 1944. He graduated from Hackettstown High School, Class of 1954.
Danny was an avid hunter and fisherman, along with his buddy Jay, Danny went to Canada for over 40 years to fish, now they are together once again fishing. In addition, he and his buddy Bruce would frequent Bruce’s property in New York State to hunt.
Danny loved to garden and in the early part of the year he would study the seed books to send for seeds, that he would plant and nurture in his greenhouse.
Danny was the Past Master of Independence Lodge, now known as Musconetcong Lodge, No 42, F&AM, Warren County Forest No. 14, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Member of National Active & Retired Federal Employees, NARFE. Member of the First Presbyterian Church and also served on the Session. Danny started the roast beef dinners as a fund raiser for the Church building fund. A member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, Local Union no. 4, for 26 years, also retired from Picatinny Arsenal as a Mason.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Barbara (Dellicker) Yankiv, daughters: Dana Yankiv Carpenter and husband Leslie, Suzanne Yankiv Raphaels and husband Jeffrey, grandson; Daniel Carpenter and fiancé Samantha Marshall, grandson; Stephen Carpenter and wife Danielle and great granddaughter, Olivia Grace and many nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Friday, May 17 at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. with Rev. Jeanette Hile officiating. Burial will be in Hackettstown Union Cemetery, Hackettstown on Friday, May 17 following the service.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Building Fund, 298 Main Street, Hackettstown, N.J. 07840 in memory of Daniel.
